What's a word-number?

We consider a word number to be a phone number that can be represented by one or more words - most mobile phones and landlines have a series of letters associated with each numerical digit, so some phone numbers spell out a word if you transcribe each digit.

i.e. 555-callme is a word number, with the corresponding phone number 555-225563 (at least it would be if 555 was a real phone number prefix.)

What's the point of word numbers?

  • Word numbers can be used for marketing purposes (they're easy to remember)
  • Word numbers make great vanity numbers (imagine having 021-yourname ...)
